P9253078Queensland Youth Sailors had the great opportunity in the September School Holidays to be coached by some of Australia’s best Youth Coaches .

The event was held at the Keppel Sailing club at Keppel Bay in North Queensland and Approx 40 sailors attending in many of the ISAF Youth Classes.

It was fantastic to see the Hobie Cat and Bic Sailboard Class attend as both these classes gain momentum in Queensland

Ben Callard Yachting Queensland’s Head development Coach ran the program with Paul Effeney and Sarah Lawrence from the Keppel Bay Sailing Club and kept the athletes on their toes with the action packed training schedule

Other coaches to attend where Adrian Finglas Yachting Australia QAS  High Performance Coach, Ken Hurling ,Luke Bailey, Sarah Lawrence  and Tracks Gordon from NSW made up a really strong coaching panel.

Keppel Bay sailing club is a critical part of the states Youth Program as it sits Approximately half way up the coast line and access is accessible to the North Queensland Sailors .

Athletes also had the opportunity to listen to Luke Bailey and Joanna Sterling 2009 Australian Youth Representatives talk about their recent I.S.A.F Youth Worlds Regatta in Brazil.

Luke discussed the value of this regatta from his perspective and how he thinks he will remember it for the rest of his life due to the great lessons in life it taught him.

Adrian Finglas discussed the pathway and the fantastic future sailors in Queensland have with the recent QAS Program appointment to assist Olympic and Youth athletes

The Camp also was used as a talent I.D and coach development Camp with Adrian Finglas assisting other coaches from around the state.

One of the biggest finds of the Camp was Eva and Klaus Lorenz from the Whitsunday sailing club ,Klaus just won the NSW state Youth Championship in the Optimist Class.
