Ray Roberts promises to leave nothing on the race course when he contests the 2010 Meriden Marinas Airlie Beach Race Week IRC class championship over the Whitsunday Sailing Club courses in mid August.
The popular Cruising Yacht Club of Australia owner skipper who lost his 2008 championship in a thrilling tactical duel against the Michael Hiatt skippered Living Doll last year has made no secret about his desire to steer the Cookson 50 Evolution Racing to victory in 2010.
This will be his final shot at winning the prestigious championship series before he replaces the 2008 Meridien Marinas Airlie Beach Race Week champion and dual Brisbane to Gladstone Race winner with the former American owned 2007 Rolex Sydney Hobart race champion Rosebud. Read more…
Hi all
After 4 days of training we feel like we are ready for the fifth event of the 2010 World Cup. This is the Delta Lloyd Holland regatta which is held in a little town called “Medemblik” about 60klms north of Amsterdam on the Ijsselmeer. The Ijsselmeer is a large bay which was cut off from the North Sea when a road/dike was built in the early 1930s, which created the fresh water bay.
This years Holland regatta is living up to the previous few world cup events with 93 entries from 29 countries in the 470 men’s category. All our main competitors are here and the battle for this years world cup title will be in full swing tomorrow. Results can be followed on www.deltalloydregatta.org/
We worked again with the trusted Japanese team with our preparation, which has seen varied wind and temperatures. The water on the first day seemed like it was ice water being sprayed in our face, but as the days have progressed the 13 degree water is starting to feel reasonable. Our first few days of training showed some rust and lack of sailing against larger high quality fleets. But we feel like we have been reminded of the toughness required to hang in and wait for your opportunities. Read more…

Brisbane Sports boat skipper Bruce Tardrew has a high hope of being on the pace when he contests the 2010 Meridien Marinas Airlie Beach Race Week in the warm Whitsunday Islands.
The ten race series generally accepted as the unofficial Australian Championship has again attracted the nation’s best including the defending champion Cam Rae helming the Royal Geelong Yacht Club Thompson 8m Laminar Capital.
Skipper Cam Rae was among the first nominations accepted by regatta Principal Race Officer Denis Thompson for what promises to be another exciting series to open the annual Whitsunday Island Festival of Sail with the battle for the highly competitive Meridien Marinas class championships set down for August 12-19. Ryan Palk has left the warm and friendly environment of his Noosa Waters home to pursue his ambition to gain selection in the Australian Olympic Yachting Team.
He packed his sail bag with all of the warm clothes he could find in preparation to represent Australia in three major Olympic Laser class regattas to be decided on the cold European courses from May 26 to June 27.
As expected Ryan Palk has left nothing to chance in terms of his personal fitness including endless hours of sail training on the Noosa River and rounded off with a physically demanding four hour ocean sail from Mooloolaba to Noosa.
Hi all
Mathew and I have just completed a weeks training in Sydney. It was a tough week on the body with strong and cold winds. I hope you like some of Victor’s latest photos showing some of the horrendous sea-way we have been battling.
Most of the regattas and last few months have hardly seen the trapeze wire being used, so it was great to be able to stretch the back and muscle the boat again. After being out of the 470 for almost a month, as I was competing at the Farr40 worlds, I felt very lucky to be hopping back in with Mathew as he is in such good form. This allowed for me to get back in the saddle quickly. Read more…
