Belcher/Page 470 Season Update 12 – Holland regatta

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Hi all

After 4 days of training we feel like we are ready for the fifth event of the 2010 World Cup.  This is the Delta Lloyd Holland regatta which is held in a little town called “Medemblik” about 60klms north of Amsterdam on the Ijsselmeer.  The Ijsselmeer is a large bay which was cut off from the North Sea when a road/dike was built in the early 1930s, which created the fresh water bay.

This years Holland regatta is living up to the previous few world cup events with 93 entries from 29 countries in the 470 men’s category.  All our main competitors are here and the battle for this years world cup title will be in full swing tomorrow.  Results can be followed on www.deltalloydregatta.org/

We worked again with the trusted Japanese team with our preparation, which has seen varied wind and temperatures.  The water on the first day seemed like it was ice water being sprayed in our face, but as the days have progressed the 13 degree water is starting to feel reasonable.  Our first few days of training showed some rust and lack of sailing against larger high quality fleets.  But we feel like we have been reminded of the toughness required to hang in and wait for your opportunities.
