Having recently smashed the solo circumnavigation of Australia record by more than 26 days, Ian Thomson is touring Australia from Sept – Dec 2010 to promote his new book “Dare to Dream” and also the new “Save Our Seas Australia” organisation.
We are inviting your club to host an evening with Ian or create a forum for Ian to speak to the youth of your club.
Ian set off on May 5th to break the world record for the fastest solo circumnavigation of Australia and by finishing in 42 days, smashed the record by 26 days. Whilst every sailor who circumnavigates writes a book about their adventure, Ian’s book differs in that it is more about creating dreams and going after them than just an account of his sail. Ian is also the founder of Save Our Seas Australia, an organisation out to raise awareness of the damage plastic bags do to our environment, promote alternatives and take action to clean it up.
My Scottish Adventure begins tomorrow, hitting the airport in the early evening to reach destination Largs via Dubai and Glasgow. The Women’s Open Radial Worlds begin on the 9th of July and there are 6 days of racing, and then the Women’s Youth Radial Worlds are from the 19th-25th July.
They are being held from a small town in Scotland, on the West Coast called Largs.
The trip is getting exciting now that the assessment of school is finished for the term and things are basically packed.
Thank you for the support and contribution you have made towards my sailing in recent times. I am extremely excited about the challenges and adventures which await me in Scotland, follow my adventure with results on the links below to the home page.

The sailors how are sailing Byte CII’s for the YOG spent long hours on the water during the first three days in an endeavour to work out how to make the boats go fast. The focus has been on boat speed, boat handling and trying to get the sailors comfortable in the different craft.
The sailors who have been selected at the Australian Youth Nationals in Laser 4.7’s have been doing little training back home due to the logistics and availability of quality Byte gear in Australia.
