Having recently smashed the solo circumnavigation of Australia record by more than 26 days, Ian Thomson is touring Australia from Sept – Dec 2010 to promote his new book “Dare to Dream” and also the new “Save Our Seas Australia” organisation.
We are inviting your club to host an evening with Ian or create a forum for Ian to speak to the youth of your club.
Ian set off on May 5th to break the world record for the fastest solo circumnavigation of Australia and by finishing in 42 days, smashed the record by 26 days. Whilst every sailor who circumnavigates writes a book about their adventure, Ian’s book differs in that it is more about creating dreams and going after them than just an account of his sail. Ian is also the founder of Save Our Seas Australia, an organisation out to raise awareness of the damage plastic bags do to our environment, promote alternatives and take action to clean it up.
Ian’s inspirational talks feature footage from his experiences, vision from his tour around Australia and footage of the damage the plastic bags are doing. He will inspire people to avoid plastic bags and also to go and live their dreams, no matter how big or small they may be.
An evening with Ian
Your club is invited to host Ian for an evening. There are no up front fees to host Ian. All you need to do is have a dinner and add to the cost per head at least $25 and have a minimum of 25 people. You can organise a meal at your club or any venue you choose. Ian will speak between meals. Sell tickets to the evening and make money for your clubs kitchen and bar. The $25 per head extra goes directly to the Save Our Seas Australia organisation to continue their work in creating awareness of the environmental issues that Plastic Bags cause. We are currently talking to several wine companies who may be able to supply wines for tasting as well or talk to your suppliers and see if they will put on a wine tasting. Make this a great social evening for your members as well as one they will walk away from inspired.
Youth Programs
Ian sees the sailing youth as a prime target to push the Save Our Seas message and also the Dare to Dream philosophy. If you have a youth program, organise a sausage sizzle prior to the evening and Ian will happily talk to the youth to encourage them to keep sailing, to go for their dreams and also push the no plastic bag theme. If you are not holding an evening then a donation to Save Our Seas Australia would be required however if you are holding an evening then Ian will speak free of charge to your youth. Please discuss with us the costs as we do need to cover Ian’s travel etc.
Conferences
Ian is also available for conferences outside your yacht club so if you know any opportunities, please pass on the details of Ian’s talks to them.
