The 2010 Qld Sabre State Championships were hosted by Cleveland Yacht Club, 17 boats entered for the event, the series comprised of 3 races on Saturday and 3 on Sunday, there was also a social side to the event with post race nibbles whilst viewing video footage of the Saturday races then onto the Redlands RSL for a meal.
Saturday’s weather forecast had a “strong wind warning” in place with gusts up to 30 knots recorded off Peel Island, the seas were really up and launching from the club was virtually impossible, fortunately the President of the Sabre Association had a “Plan B” in the sailing instructions so a decision was made to sail Saturday’s 3 races in Raby Bay which was quite successful with the majority of boats finishing all races thanks to the calmer waters.
Sunday was looking a little better with the forecast of 20 knots gusting to 25 knots, the seas were again pretty rough and with a high tide made it difficult to launch the boats for the morning race. After lunch the last 2 races were sailed in a 20 knot breeze which was more comfortable for most.
The series was hotly contested and the results below show how close the racing was between the top 3 overall place getters.
