The 103 crews present for the first leg of the SailDownUnder series were greeted by a second day of intense racing. After another shifty day on the water Queensland Sailing Team members are again in promising positions overall.
On the Northern course Laser full rig athlete Ryan Palk has maintained his dominant position with top 2 placings in all three races. In the Laser radials, Queensland Academy of Sport competitor Mitchell Kennedy leads both open and youth divisions with some extremely consistent racing.
As the breeze moved around and finally settled, the start boat fired off racing on the southern course. Queensland athletes supported by high performance coaches Ben Callard and Marty Watson have taken control across the board of classes. In the 420 Galloway and Gough lead for the second day with wins in two races today.
In the Optimist class, Queensland team members Kyle Evans and Charlie Wyatt sit in 2nd and 3rd after strong results in the building breeze. The Queensland 29er pair of Brake and Franklin secured themselves second narrowly behind the lead, after three races.
With another day of first-rate conditions predicted, the Queensland Sailing Team is set for another dominant performance within all classes. The team supported by the Queensland Academy of Sport, Dynamic Satellite Surveys and OAMPS insurance brokers are dominating state and international rivals leading into the third day of Sail Brisbane 2010.
