MEDIA RELEASE

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

With the festive period now over, it’s time for yacht owners from the Brisbane area and beyond to turn their attention
to the next major event on the calendar; the Surf to City Yacht Race.

As the clocks clicked over to 2011, 50 skippers had registered on the online entry system and thirty yachts
had submitted either an entry or intention to race on the 22nd January 2011. Based on previous years, Race Director,
Nigel Statham, predicts a fleet of 100 yachts spread over the inshore and offshore fleet.

Final entries close on the 19th January although as Mr. Statham pointed out, “skippers will need to pay a late
entry fee after the 13th so the sooner the better”.

New for the 18th running of the race, skippers are able to enter online via the race website, www.surf2city.com.au
“The majority of competitors are welcoming the ability to return to their entry at any time to add further documents
or alter crew lists. We are intending to use the same system for this year’s Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race
at Easter”

The online entry system is just one element of an increased web based presence.

“Our yacht tracker site received over a million hits from around the globe during last year’s race and this is something we want to build on.

For 2011 we have both Twitter and Facebook pages as well as the website and Tracertrak yacht tracker; even if you are not racing, we want family, friends and spectators to feel involved with this classic race” said Mr Statham.

The race is organised and hosted by Queensland Cruising Yacht Club and run in association with Southport Yacht Club.
