With less then two months to go, Abel Point Yacht Club Treasurer Lyn Chalmers said there has been plenty of enquiries about this year’s Dent to Dunk Rally.
Because Cyclone Yasi devastated both Dunk Island and Port Hinchinbrook Marina, plans for this year’s rally have changed. This year they are having the Coral Coast Rally. The rally is sailing from Airlie Beach in the picturesque Whitsundays to beautiful Port Douglas in North Queensland.
Port Douglas Yacht Club is working in conjunction with the Abel Point Yacht Club to make the event a very special experience for rally participants.
The rally starts on Wednesday 1 June. The first stop is at Cape Gloucester where everyone can relax and enjoy the serene surroundings of the Eco Resort before attending a scrumptious evening BBQ followed by the annual must do “Pirate and Prostitutes Party”.
The rally will spend two nights at the magnificent Horseshoe Bay on Magnetic Island, including a lay day to explore Magnetic Island. The Abel Point Yacht Club is also running the Coral Coast Race this year. The racing yachts will finish at Horseshoe Bay. The evenings will be spent at the Marlin Bar Tavern on the beach front where there will be special prices, a special Coral Coast Rally menu, live band and prizes. The second night at Horseshoe Bay will be presentation night for the racing crews and a celebration night for both racing and rally members.
One night the yachts will anchor off Dunk Island. There will be no facilities because of Cyclone Yasi, but it is a great anchorage and fabulous setting. It will be a night to enjoy.
Fitzroy Island management are welcoming the rally with open arms this year. After being closed for a few years, new management is going out of their way to facilitate the rally members and make the two nights stay a memorable occasion.
As well as the above locations, the rally will anchor off several Barrier Reef islands overnight and enjoy the tranquillity that National Park Islands offer. Throughout the rally there are theme nights, competitions and big prizes to give away.
The rally finishes at Port Douglas on Sunday 12 June, where there will be a complimentary buffet luncheon at midday and final presentation for rally winners, and anyone else who deserves a prize.
Abel Point Yacht Club are now asking people to give them firm entries so planning can enter the final stage.
The club has received four paid entries for the rally so far. There are many yachts coming on the rally but people haven’t put in their paperwork yet.
Coral Coast Notice of Rally can be viewed on the website: www.apyc.yachting.org.au
The entry form is also on the website.
Entry fee per yacht for the rally is $250.
