Highly competitive fleets for Queensland Youth Week 2011

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

As the 2011 Queensland Youth Week and Mid –Winter Championships draw near, organisers and competitors alike are predicting another year of fantastic racing.

The regatta will commence on July 2nd and continue through until July 5th. Sailed from the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron (RQYS) in Brisbane, Queensland’s pristine winter sailing conditions will provide perfect proving grounds, for competitors leading into the Australian Youth Championships in December.

“Hosted by Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron with it’s spacious grassed rigging lawns, perfect sunny winters days and beautiful traffic free racing areas, there is no better reason to pack up the family and join in for this fun and exciting event”

Suellen Hurling (RQYS Sailing Officer)

With accommodation, shops and entertainment along the waterfront in Manly, the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron is the perfect place for one of Queensland and Australia’s largest winter regattas.

The competition will be raced on the same waters as this year’s Australian Youth Championships where the best youth sailors in Australia, battle head to head for a position in the Australian Youth Sailing Team.

Entries are flooding in, and presently there is an outstanding fleet of 66 optimists. Sailors in this fleet include 2011 Queensland Champion Kyle O’Connell, 2011 NSW Champion Jack Graves and current Australian Champion Chris Charlwood from Western Australia.

Entries continue to build and 2011 looks to be the most promising year for competitive racing in the history of the event. With 173 entries last year, the Queensland Youth Week is a regatta in the racing year that simply can’t be missed.
