Australian 420 Championships

This year’s championships will be sailed out of the Moreton Bay Boat Club, Redcliffe Qld from Dec 27th to Jan 2nd with a lay day on Jan 1st.
Queensland is renowned for its competitive racing fleet with past and present 420 Men and Women Australian Youth Champions. “The 420 is by far the best youth racing class. And here in Australia we have one of the most competitive fleets in the world” Angus Galloway 2009 -10 & 2010-11 Youth Champion helm.
Once athletes complete in the National Open Championships they can make the short drive south to the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron (RQYS) for the Australian Youth Championships from 6th January. The Australian 420 Championships is one of the two selection events for the Australian Youth Sailing Team – headed for Dublin Bay in 2012, for the ISAF Youth Worlds.
The Moreton Bay Boat Club (MBBC) is on picturesque Moreton Bay in sunny Queensland. With an outside deck with spectacular views of the water and boats which moor on the marina, the club is ideal to host the 2011-12 Championships. Security……
MBBC is situated on the Redcliffe Peninsula. The club has a caravan park close by along with various accommodation and shopping facilities. RQYS at Manly is a 30 minute drive south.

Dec 28 Measurement, Invitation Race and Welcome

Dec 31 Race Day 3
Jan 1st Lay Day
Jan 2nd Race day 4
Jan 3rd Race day 5 followed by Presentation dinner.
With an extremely competitive fleet each year, the Australian 420 Championships is a regatta not to be missed. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to race some of the best 420 sailors in the world, in the pristine conditions of Moreton Bay. Registrations and notice of race will be available shortly. The Association will be looking for volunteers to support this event.
There have been a number of inquiries involving the need for charter boats from international competitors this year.
Lets make this championship as competitive as possible and help out our international friends.
