Members of the Mission Beach Sailing Club (MBSC) recently competed in the J24 Championships hosted in Cairns by the Cairns Yacht Club.
Club stalwarts Greg and Judy Heath joined forces with newly appointed club secretary and rear-commodore Trish and David Grigg and their sons Sam and Tom.
Sailing in a fleet of six boats on Saturday the team came second overall with one heat win. The first three boats went into the finals the next day.
Judy Heath said the competition was much stiffer on Sunday.
“We had a different boat and you could hear the sigh of relief from the local skippers when MBSC drew ‘Viva la Beaver’ out of the hat for the finals! We only understood the meaning of the sigh when we were on the water!,” Mrs Heath said.
She said that the team improved every race and ended up sixth overall with a third in the last race.
Well done to the MBSC team on being involved and giving the Cairns teams a run for their money.
