Whitsunday Sailing Club played another pivotal role in gaining important tourism awareness for Airlie Beach when they hosted the successful 2010 Ice Berg Australian Tasar championship on their Pioneer Bay course.
The exciting 10 race championship attracted 186 one design dinghy sailors crewing 93 Tasar dinghies representing clubs from West Australia, South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, The Northern Territory and Queensland where the colourful one-design dinghy fleet transformed the sailing venue into a spectacular scene reminiscent to butterflies fluttering in a gentle wind on the Bay.
More importantly many of the sailors and their families and friends were first time visitors to the Whitsundays and besides topping up their sun tan they enjoyed the pleasant tropical winter environment and the friendly hospitality which is always on offer at the Whitsunday Sailing Club.
Sure all of the competitors were in a relaxed mode on the rigging lawn but became more focused on testing the tactical strategy and individual boat speed on the water in what proved to be 10 exciting races to decide 2010 Australian champion and the Ice Berg trophy winner. Read more…

The New South Wales Tasar dinghy sailing combination of Rob and Nicole Douglass will make a strong claim to win the Australian championship Gold Medal in next month’s 2010 championship off Airlie Beach.
They have proved to be the inform crew winning the National Titles in Perth, on Lake Macquarie and in Darwin which supports their claim to be the crew to watch when the battle lines for the 2010 championship are drawn on the Whitsunday Sailing Club course on Pioneer Bay.
Racing in an unfamiliar environment does not present a problem to the Douglass crew who seem to have the mental and physical ability to produce the required results when the tactical pressure is applied. Read more…

Lasers in action on final day of Sail Brisbane
Strong winds have brought about an early finish to the 2009 Sail Brisbane regatta with a number of classes decided in day’s one and only race.
The northerly wind of 20 knots, with gusts up to 25 knots, and heavy swell, made life difficult for the more than 160 competitors who took part in the opening round of the 2009 Sail Down Under series.
Australian Sailing Development Squad athlete Ashley Brunning claimed victory in the Laser class, winning the final three races of the regatta to finish with a slender four point lead over the UK’s Robert Godwin with Matias Del Solar Go third.
