Sunday, September 5th, 2010

Two of Australia’s international sailing superstars, Tom Slingsby and Nathan Outteridge, will participate in this year’s Heaven Can Wait charity yacht regatta on Lake Macquarie NSW during the October long weekend to raise funds for men’s cancer research and support program.

Sailing the latest high-tech, high-speed Foiling Moths, they will join a fleet of up to 100 sailing boats – yachts, multihulls, skiffs, dinghies, Foiling Moths and others – racing around Lake Macquarie on Saturday October 2 and Sunday October 3.

This fleet will face the starter off Royal Motor Yacht Club Toronto, racing a 28.5 nautical mile course around the lake in the Heaven Can Wait (HCW) charity yacht regatta.

The regatta consists of two events: a ‘One Lap Dash’ once around the course, and the HCW 24 Hour Race, in which boats sail around the lake as many times as they can over 24 hours.

Boats can enter either or both races. Read more…

SAVE OUR SEAS AUSTRALIA

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Since being back from my world record setting sail around Australia, things have been rather busy.  One of the reasons I wanted to sail around Australia was to open up some options in a sailing career and they have certainly come about.  First of all I am setting up a tour of Australian Yacht Clubs and Primary Schools for Sept – December this year.  I have also set up Save Our Seas Australia which will soon be non profit organisation.  And I have set up a sailing calendar where people can come and join me for racing in major offshore events.  All the details are below:

Dare to Dream Tour – Help Save our Seas

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Having recently smashed the solo circumnavigation of Australia record by more than 26 days, Ian Thomson is touring Australia from Sept – Dec 2010 to promote his new book “Dare to Dream” and also the new “Save Our Seas Australia” organisation.

We are inviting your club to host an evening with Ian or create a forum for Ian to speak to the youth of your club.

Ian set off on May 5th to break the world record for the fastest solo circumnavigation of Australia and by finishing in 42 days, smashed the record by 26 days.  Whilst every sailor who circumnavigates writes a book about their adventure, Ian’s book differs in that it is more about creating dreams and going after them than just an account of his sail.  Ian is also the founder of Save Our Seas Australia, an organisation out to raise awareness of the damage plastic bags do to our environment, promote alternatives and take action to clean it up.
